Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to inspire learning and growth while making a meaningful difference in students’ lives. As a Black male, I also recognize the importance of representation in the education system. I want to show students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. By fostering curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking, I aim to create a supportive environment where all students feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One year, I taught a lesson on fiction vs. nonfiction. Despite examples and explanations, students were confused. Then, a student asked, “Is fiction just like cap?” I didn’t understand at first, but he explained “cap” means not true (fiction) and “no cap” means truth (nonfiction). Suddenly, it clicked for everyone, and the class had an “ohh” moment. I revamped my lesson and even created a “cap vs. no cap” review game. This taught me to show kids the relevance & connection to their own lives.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were fortunate enough to win the $25,000, the first thing I would do is take my mom on a “Treat Yourself” getaway out of the country. Because I have to uphold my title as the “flyest teacher at school” I would make a few purchases on the SNKRS app. The responsible side of me would use part of my winnings to clear out some of my student loan debt. If Im lucky enough to have anything left after the student loans, I’d put a down payment on new car!
