Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is a calling, a passion, and a way to give back to the community that shaped me. I became a teacher because I love my students, my community, and the power of science to spark curiosity and change lives. As a student, I struggled to learn, often feeling lost and unseen. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate education without the right support. That experience shaped my desire to become the teacher I once needed—the one who sees the potential in every student.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I work for an inner-city public charter school in Fort Worth Texas. My students are considered to be Title One because their diversity and economic status. I remember one student struggled so much in learning & he finally passed all his state tests. We called his high school daily to see if they would approve him for his program. When he finally got accepted, we both cried happy tears and it was that moment that I knew he was going to make it and teaching is my calling.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would like to add some seating outside my school for an outdoor science learning environment. Then I would like to use the remainder of the funds to help my dream of becoming a mother come to fruition. I have struggled with carrying a baby to term and insurance will not help anymore. I would like to try one more time and also adopt a sibling. I change families lives every day and would love to have a family of my own.
