Tell us why you became a teacher

From an early age, I always wanted to make a difference in the lives of young children. I’m a helper. The most magical moment is seeing the light bulb go off in the eyes of a child. When a child understands, and you see them understanding it’s a beautiful moment. Their confidence shines and they are growing. Observing growth and helping young children become better humans is what makes being a teacher the most rewarding. Lastly, my second grade teacher, Miss Roth, was my hero.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I am trying to pin point one specific moment in teaching that was the most memorable; however each and every second of my past twenty years has been memorable. The growth, the confidence, the laughter and love shared in room 100 has been etched upon my soul. I carry my students and our moments forever with me. What I’ve truly loved most, is when my former students come and visit. I’ve enjoyed every moment that has become a memory over the past 20 years.

What would you do with the $25,000?

To be completely honest, I have spent thousands of dollars over the years on my students. I would donate 3,000 to the support aides at my school, and then use the rest for my family. Our aides work tirelessly and are not compensated nearly enough. I’ve bought clothes, food, sneakers, games, and make each child an individualized scrapbook each year. Part of the 25,000 would go towards helping build Whst I’ve spent of my own money.
