Tell us why you became a teacher

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a music teacher. In elementary school, I participated in band, orchestra, and chorus, exploring multiple instruments and even accompanying the choir. My music teacher let me conduct the chorus in 6th grade, which sparked my passion for teaching. In high school, I made Select Choir, band, & color guard, while also assisting the elementary music teacher. I’ve always loved working with kids & sharing the joy of making music.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most memorable moments of teaching was witnessing my student win the Jimmy’s National High School Musical Theatre Award. I sobbed throughout her performance during the finals, knowing she would be the winner, I felt an overwhelming mix of pride and joy. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, knowing I had been part of her journey and watching her dreams come true. That moment reaffirmed why I love teaching and supporting my students' passions.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I would put it back into the music program. While sports often receive funding, our music students struggle to get the necessary resources. Our high school just built a new stadium, but there are still many large ticket items our program needs, like a shell for the auditorium. This would help ensure the students are heard clearly during performances. While $25,000 may not cover it all, it’s a start, & it would make a significant difference in enhancing their musical experience.
