I want all kids to be successful at school. I love those A-ha moments when they make those connections between their learning and life.

Since I was a little girl in elementary school, I would pretend to be a teacher with my stuffed animals as students. It has always been in my heart. My son was born with Spina Bifida and as I watched him go through the school system, I got to meet some amazing teachers. It was then I knew I needed to finish school and hopefully make an impact on others just like those previous teachers.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA particular student had been giving me a difficult time. After I realized I needed to approach this situation in a different way. I started telling him I was going to be his best friend and make sure he made better choices. When he was finished with school, his family moved away. The following year, I came to work early in the morning and in the office was this student. He didn’t want to talk to anyone but me. I never thought, I would be thought of after he left. Very surprising and very happy.
What would you do with the $25,000?Obviously, I would buy more science supplies for my classroom. I would love to take my students on a field trip to the Amboy crater. The rest would maybe pay some bills and go into savings.
