Tell us why you became a teacher

The reason why I became a teacher was because of the amazing educators I had in my life that believed in me. Growing up with a learning disability wasn’t easy but with their support and encouragement I was able to go far. Because of this I wanted to have the same impact for my students. To give them a place they can feel safe, empowered, and feel confident in their learning. Helping them know it is okay that we all learn differently and if you believe in yourself you can achieve.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are honestly so many memorable experiences in my teaching career. From seeing the students excited to come to school each day to learn and share what they know. To the first aha when they understand what we are learning and from the supportive parents who are excited to get help for their students and being able to make sure I help get them the tools to succeed. My favorite moment recently was sharing with my class we won the read bowl for our state. They worked so hard.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would buy something memorable for my students, have a snack area for them, as well as buy some books and project materials for my classroom. I would also save some money for my son’s college education, family goals, and to help my family.
