For the past 37 years I have loved creating a space for every student to thrive- to gain knowledge, curiosity, confidence, and compassion.

I always enjoyed working with kids and think I was pretty much born to be a teacher. School was not always easy for me, so I have a special place in my heart for those students who struggle and just haven't found the thing yet that will help all their "puzzle piece" fit together as learners. I not only want my students to leave my classroom understanding the curriculum- I also want them to leave truly believing they are smart and I want them to leave understanding the power of kindness.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceAfter 37 years, it is impossible to come up with just one, but my favorite moments are definitely anytime my students find joy in learning. From "Music Monday" to reading Shakespeare, I know that if I can create an environment my students want to be in and feel safe in, then they are much more receptive and open to the learning process. We are a family in my classroom- we may make each other crazy sometimes, but at the end of the day, we have each other's backs and want everyone to succeed!
What would you do with the $25,000?The beach is my favorite place in the world, so I would love to treat my family- including my grandkids- to a wonderful beach vacation. Making memories with them fills my heart with such joy! I would also like to donate to some of the causes I hold near and dear in these challenging times- environmental protections, women's rights, LBGTQ+ protections.
