I became a teacher because as a student my favorite place was at school. I found respite and consistency with my teachers. I pursued my undergraduate degree based on the love of literature one of my favorite teachers instilled in me. When it came time to decide what to do after graduation, it was a no brainer: I want to give my students the same care, inspiration, and support that my teachers gave to me when I was their age. Immortality isn't real, but through teaching I can affect the future.

I have been fortunate to have so many in my nearly two decade long career, but if I had to pick just one it is the annual class trip to Catalina Island that I took with my students when I taught marine biology. We would spend a weekend on the island camping, team building, doing scientific explorations, hiking, and snorkeling with sharks. Being able to facilitate these first and once in a lifetime experiences for 7 years of students sticks with me and is one of my favorite memories.

I am so fortunate that I am okay financially in my personal life: I worked through school and have no debts from university and grad school. I have a reliable car and a place to live, so this money would go right back into my classroom. We need equipment like cameras, lenses, props, printers for student work, funding for field trips, and so much more! This money would help tremendously with getting supplies and experiences directly in the hands of the students!
