Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching was something I always pretended to do when I was a kid with my babies. As I got older, I really had not planned to go into teaching. My degree is in Agriculture Economics. However, after a little over a year out of college, I realized I was in the wrong place and was pointed in the direction of teaching. I have not regretted my decision since. I have a passion for teaching and watching students feel loved and succeed on a daily basis!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would have to be taking my student council students shopping on a budget for other kids who needed Christmas and their parents could not afford it and purchasing items for the local nursing home. It is an experience to watch kids work together for to figure out what a child would want and if they can afford to buy everything they want to give to that student and to watch the residents of the local nursing home smile with joy as our kids pass out goodies.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As a single mom, I have put my daughter first for the past 20 years. I would put some of the money towards a new car as I drive a car over 10 years old that has been seen better days. I would help my daughter with her car payment while she finishes college. I would then use some for my students. I purchase books for my students every month of the school year. They get to take home a new book every month while in my class. I would put money towards that and anything else my students need.
