The truth? I aspired to be a scientist and found my way into teaching unexpectedly. It was ' my original plan, but I quickly realized the profound impact and fulfillment it brings. Now, I can't imagine doing anything else. Teaching is an incredible and dynamic profession that challenges me daily (sometimes by the minute) and allows me to inspire, support, and empower students in ways I never imagined myself being capable of. While I never anticipated being on this journey, I am truly grateful.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience didn't take place in the classroom. I led a school trip where my students collaborated with Thai students at a low-income school to plant mushrooms and other crops, which provided nourishment and funds to help the community hire another teacher. Witnessing my students transform into globally aware, compassionate citizens was incredible. At the end of each day, they played together, transcending language barriers and bonding, making it tough to say goodbye.
What would you do with the $25,000?As I pursue my doctoral degree with a focus on teacher burnout, I would LOVE to use a portion of this prize to create a professional development program aimed at supporting teachers' mental health. This initiative would provide valuable resources and practical strategies to help educators thrive while tackling the daily challenges at school. And, of course, I'd like to take a TRUE vacation- something beyond a quick weekend trip or a staycation :)
