I became a teacher for several reasons. Raised by service-driven parents, I developed a deep joy in helping others. As a student, I experienced the impact of great teachers and wanted to make the same difference for others. I strongly believe all students can learn, and I am passionate about making education accessible for everyone. I constantly seek creative ways to engage students and ensure they have the tools and support they need to succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my junior high students with Down syndrome experienced a traumatic event at his previous school, which led him to withdraw, stop communicating, and avoid engagement. By providing a safe and supportive environment, along with AAC tools, he gradually regained his voice. Today, he smiles, plays, runs, and expresses himself with confidence. Witnessing his transformation reaffirms my passion for teaching—creating a space where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I’d first pay off debt and put the rest toward a home—something I’ve always dreamed of but feels out of reach on a single woman on a teacher’s salary in Arkansas. Plus, my doodle dog deserves a yard to run in!
