Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help kids. I am a first generation college graduate which is a huge deal in my family. I’ve stayed a teacher because I love the end result. Success. I gladly take time to write each letter of recommendation. I’ve watched so many students get to the collegiate level and be successful. The feeling I get knowing I helped them reach that point is so rewarding!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment is always graduation. As a high school teacher for the last six years (total 10 years in education), I cry at every graduation. There’s an overwhelming feeling knowing I took part in each child teaching that point. I am a first generation college graduate and I work at an almost all black high school. Many of our students are not expecting to reach that point. At a low-income school, many students come from really tough home lives. I love that I can support them to compl

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would help my classroom with some well need supplies. I work at a title 1 school and I see daily things kids need. Some just need deodorant, band aids, wipes, snacks, etc. I would help my family who have been struggling since my dad’s back surgery last year. If there is any money left, I would go to Disney world with my family. I’ve wanted to go since childhood!! I would also pay off my credit cards.
