Tell us why you became a teacher

I’ve always loved working with kids. They have so much creativity, innocence, and imagination. When you spend the day learning and growing with them, you get the opportunity to have a young mind and see the world from their eyes instead of your own for a little bit. I learn as much from them as they learn from me, and it brings me joy to be the best part of some of their days. Not all kids have a strong support system or a go-to person, so I am honored that for some of them, I am that constant.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would be going to my students after school sporting events. I feel like a celebrity and the look on their faces when they are on the court, field, and see me is priceless. Taking the time to care about them as humans and not just students on your roster builds relationships and lifelong connections. I will forever be the teacher that supports them both inside and outside of the classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to continue my education with a masters degree and also purchase more flexible seating options. I want to continue to offer my students the best education and teachers can be learners too. The flexible seating options would help students learn in an environment that’s comfortable for them. They should not have to be sitting constantly in order to get their learning done, and I’ve already seen such an improvement with the seating options I do have now!
