Tell us why you became a teacher

Continued education, access to education, and application of knowledge are all essential cores regarding Science. These are also core values I hold near and dear regarding why I became an educator. I love being able to learn new things and apply that knowledge by sharing it with others and getting them excited to learn about a new topic. Teaching has helped me bring my love for education and Science together.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I teach special education at a school where the population has severe physical, mental, behavioral, and learning needs. That being said, every opportunity I get to have a Science experiment with them makes my heart soar! Being able to help them connect a learning standard with a memorable activity through tactile experiences is why I entered into this classroom. Just because these students require a lot of support does not mean that they cannot experience a “typical” Science setting! I love Sci!

What would you do with the $25,000?

Besides pay off my masters of education degree, I would honestly spend it on myself! Just like most teachers, a hefty portion of my monthly salary goes straight back into the children either for feminine products, snacks, clothing, supplies, rewards such as fidget spinners, the list can go on and on. Although I love my students and my school, it comes with its own unique set of challenges and I need some TLC to these shoulder and back muscles from lifting kids in and out of wheelchairs!
