Tell us why you became a teacher

I used to work in corporate America. I went to work daily and did a good job, but I never made a difference in anyone’s life. I started teaching to make a difference every day. To show kids love and to be a rock for kids who don’t have one.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My favorite part about teaching is when kids have an “ah ha” moment. When you’ve rolled out some new curriculum and they finally get it! Just last week during our math lesson, my student who usually in the last few to understand material, was the first to get it! He said, during the lecture, Mrs. Burton, I get it!! It made me so happy. Yay for him!!!

What would you do with the $25,000?

My classroom needs a lot of new things. Upgraded furniture, decorations and educational toys and games. I would also seek out professional development.
