I became a teacher to deliver meaningful and culturally responsive knowledge to the most affected communities in New York City. I want kids to see themselves represented and inspired by my presence at school, my goal is to help students reach their full potential by teaching in both English and Spanish. I want my special education students to thrive and dream big to get further in life, because with discipline, respect and love you can achieve success.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During my first year teaching I had a very challenging student that will always throw his shoes at me and cried to get his preferred activity. I developed a behavior intervention plan that help him cope with his emotions. I used socio emocional learning techniques as well including breathing exercises and teaching my student that now he is “ A Big Boy” and Big Boys breath when facing challenges. Every time he faced a challenging situation he would breath and proceeded to work. Way to go!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If granted the blessing of having 25,000 I will invest them onto my personal project to develop a Nonprofit focused on serving students with disabilities afterschool with tutoring, speech, counseling, O.T., and other related services. Lots of Hispanic, Brown and Black students don’t have proper access to these services and I want to deliver quality with integrity and love.
