Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because from an early age I knew it was my calling. I had a passion for music, initially band but that has expanded to vocal and theatre as well, and I couldn't picture myself doing any other job. I am very passionate about giving every student the best possible education, while also providing a safe and joyful classroom for them to feel a part of. I don't teach to create more music majors, I teach to help students be well-rounded and good people.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There is many over my 9 years in education, but the most memorable was this past November of 2024. We brought our marching band to a US Bands competition in Allentown, Pennsylvania. They had worked extremely hard on their show all fall, which was to honor a staff member who had passed away. We were in a division with much larger bands and were anticipating 10th place but place 3rd overall and 1st in music. They worked so hard and I was so proud of them. Both in their performance and attitudes.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Pay off my credit card, and a large chunk of my student loans. I bought a house 2 years ago and between multiple home repairs, my car, student loans, and currently pursuing a master's degree in Teacher Leadership (and now the current administration), any amount would be life changing.
