I became a teacher because I know firsthand the power an educator has to shape a student’s future. As a struggling student, I was inspired by the teachers who believed in me—those who took the time to encourage, support, and guide me when I needed it most. At the same time, I was challenged by the teachers who underestimated me, the ones who couldn’t see beyond my struggles. I far surpassed what they ever thought I could achieve. That journey ignited my passion to become the teacher that I am.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was the year I co-taught first grade with a special education teacher, forming an incredible partnership that truly embodied the spirit of inclusion. We were a power team, seamlessly blending our strengths to create a classroom where every student—regardless of ability—felt valued, supported, and capable of success. That year, we broke down barriers, fostered a deep sense of community, and witnessed remarkable growth in our students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded $25,000, I would use it to support my children’s education. This would enable our daughter to focus on her studies and future goals. Additionally, I would invest a portion of the money to help prepare for our son’s college expenses, ensuring he has the resources he needs when he begins his journey in four years. Education has always been a priority in our family, and this opportunity would enable us to lead by example.
