The best part about my job is that, for most kids, I get to be the person that introduces band to them and hopefully sparks a love of music.

I became a teacher because learning the saxophone was one of the hardest and most wonderful things I have ever done. I love band so much and know how much it has done for me as a person that I wanted to give that gift to students. I love teaching beginners because it's like a baby walking or talking for the first time. There is so much joy and the progress is so obvious. I use my class to teach music and life lessons like being a good friend and taking responsibility for your own actions.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThere are so many because I have been at this a LONG time. In my first teaching position, I was able to start a marching band after the school blew through four directors in three years. The kids bought into the program(and me) during my first year teaching. We competed at a friend's competition, and we were awful compared to the bands who had long traditions of marching band, but my kids played everything with such heart and compassion. I will never forget that day.
What would you do with the $25,000?I was just accepted to participate in the Rose Parade as a marcher in the band director's band. I marched with them in the Macy's parade in 2023. I would put part of the money toward that experience(dream of mine) and then the rest would go toward my two daughters' college funds.
