Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up, I saw many examples of teachers but realized it was the ones who built relationships that truly made the difference. I had teachers who invested time in caring and found myself thinking of following in their path of making a difference. God calls upon us, and I felt He was guiding me through whispers and opportunities to pursue education.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was in a severe accident this year and immobilized and wasn't able to work for four months. I FaceTimed with the students every few weeks in my cross categorical classroom, and even in my darkest of days, they brought me so much joy. Seeing empathy, concern and thoughtfulness on their part made my heart swell. I was so blessed by so many people supporting our family during this hard time, but the kindness my students displayed got me through the hardest of days.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My son wants to be a special education teacher, and I would put it towards his education to help inspire others. He's dedicated countless hours to Special Olympics, and has voiced that he undoubtedly wanted to follow in my footsteps and work as a special educator and Special Olympics coach. It would be an investment in the future!
