Tell us why you became a teacher

Kids have been my calling since I was 9 yrs old- volunteering in our church nursery on weekdays & Sundays, to babysitting, to teaching children’s church. But it was also because of (3) awesome music teachers that I decided to pursue music/education- Mrs. Beck, Mr. Vidarri, & Mr. Kirkman. I am forever grateful. Later I was recruited by my church to teach in our small, but impactful school. With 26+ yrs of teaching exp., I now know that I can call my classroom a true place of nurturing & faith.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a student come to me in Jan. 2022 as a 2nd grader, post pandemic. She was not reading & had undiagnosed dyslexia & adhd symptoms, as well as severe anger issues towards her mother. It was a really rough 1 1/2 years that she was in my class; we prayed & cried together many times during that time. When she moved away, she was starting to blossom— from PP upon entry to reading level 2.1, with a growing self-confidence, trust & love for the staff. By the end, I was her “adopted” auntie. ❤️

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would put it towards my retirement. We do not have an extensive retirement pkg at my school so I am trying to plan wisely for when I do retire. God always supplies the things I need, so am expecting the same for this, too. This would be a real Godsend for the future. 🙏🏼🙌🏼
