Tell us why you became a teacher

I was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age. I struggled throughout school and couldn’t find a place where I belonged academically. A lot of times teachers gave up on teaching me certain aspects. I felt less than everyone else around me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

LYLE Torrant is a special place. When I first get some of my students they self harm and they have no sense of self regulation. I have students now that are able to move out of the building and be in different classrooms outside of the special education building. Being the person that teaches them to self regulate and work through problems is a major blessing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

You’ll probably get this answer a lot among teachers, but student debt is a big one. I would also love to enhance my classroom with new assistive technology in the world of special education and add more flexible Seating. A lot of resources special education can be expensive.
