Learn MoreI want to make a difference. I became a teacher to give students the experiences and understanding that wasn’t always granted to me. Back when I grew up teaching was very different and a lot of worksheets. I work to make sure my students have hands on experiences. I incorporate mindfulness and teach various strategies for students to use when they feel frustrated, angry or even sad. Seeing students grow socially, emotionally and academically is very rewarding.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was years ago. A new student just arrived in our country after several extremely traumatic events. She didn’t speak any English. She was crying quite a bit. When the students left for PE I allowed her to stay in the class with me. We played with animal figurines and I showed her my limited Spanish skills by reciting a few animal names. She laughed and laughed when we found an elephant in the wrong bin. That day reminded me how crucial relationships are.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use some of the money to fund my stepdaughters college education. I would use some to purchase necessary items for my classroom. I would save a small portion as well.
