Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of education to change lives. Growing up, I had mentors who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I want to do the same for others by helping students discover their potential, overcome obstacles, and find their voice. The classroom is where I can make a real impact, offering encouragement and guidance to help each child realize their dreams. Teaching is my way of giving back and shaping a brighter future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

After learning about the 3R’s, my students asked why we don’t recycle at school? It was my first year in the building. So, I asked them what they want to do about it? They formed the first Green Team at our school, got big bins from the city, made recycling bins from boxes from the cafeteria that they collected for weeks. And, delivered them to every classroom. They made posters and on Tuesdays, they’d collect it. They were awarded a plaque for their commitment to recycling and met the mayor!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would first pay off some of my student loans! I’ve always made payments to avoid compounding interest, but it’s such a burden on my family. We have three small children so, I’d like to set some aside for their education as well. And, put some of it into our home. We have to fix our sewer line that is broken, that’s going to be a big expense for us. So, it would be a blessing if I were able to win the money.
