Jennifer Thornton

I love the excitement and light in a child’s eyes when they try to learn something, and they finally figure it out. So magical!!!

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was influenced by many teachers over the years. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Chris Parker, she was my second grade teacher. I used to talk a lot and would get my name on the board for talking. I knew just how many check markers to stop at before I would lose recess. Even though she would say my name probably daily, I still loved her and knew I wanted to be a teacher just like her some day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would be when I taught first grade. There was a little boy, I'll call him "John." John always got in trouble when he was in kindergarten. He was normally in the principal's office and had to stand at recess for misbehaving. When he came to me in first grade, I made sure the class new it was a new year, new you. He was so good for me giving him a clean slate as a new you.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off bills that need taken care of. I am hoping to buy a house in April or May. This would help me to pay off bills, raise my credit and buy a forever home. We have rented for years and I am almost 50 and would love to have a house to call mine.
