Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I very much enjoyed the community that the education system provides! I’ve always felt extremely comfortable going to schools, volunteering at schools, and now teaching at schools! A lot of great things are happening at schools and I always wanted to remain a part of all of it!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In 2020 my 3rd grade class had “Market Days” where the kids made products and sold them (for fake money). Cheryl made some beautiful cards and I said, “Girlfriend! These are good! You need to get into the greeting card business for real!” Covid hit in March and I didn’t get to finish that year with my kids or even say goodbye. I was moving away over the summer. Cheryl and I kept in touch and she now owns her own small business making cards, bookmarks, and plushies!! So proud of her!

What would you do with the $25,000?

The first thing I would do is pay down debt!! Cost of living for teachers is a killer and both myself and my husband are educators. I would stash away some money into savings for rainy days as our oven broke last summer and I also needed new tires, so our savings was depleted. Finally I would spend the rest of the money on my classroom! Our whole group reading area rug where we all come together to listen to stories is worn out with holes and I would love to buy some flexible seating options!
