Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’ve always wanted to help people. I love reading and wanted to share my love for learning with my students. I also enjoy working with young people! Since I am a 4th generation educator, I was also inspired by family members as well. I could not conceive of doing any other occupation. My why shifts even more with time as I see how much students in our society need dedicated professionals who encourage them to contribute to society by becoming successful adults.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This question is so not fair! Just one? Being able to share author visits with my students has been an amazing experience as well as hearing their appreciation! Some are inspired to pursue writing and thrilled to have the author sign their free copy of a beloved book. This is memorable for students too because they get to come up with phenomenal questions to ask the writer! Investing in reading, writing, and critical thinking benefits the entire learning community!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I could use the money to earn my doctorate. I have considered this, but I can’t afford it currently even with tuition reimbursement because helping my son go to college is my top priority. I would like to use half of the money to create a fellowship to help educators continue their education too.
