Tell us why you became a teacher

While my sons were toddlers they were in the Headstart program. I learned how to teach them from the Headstart teachers and really enjoyed watching their amazed faces when learning new things. Teaching my boys made me go to college for teaching as I fell in love with watching their faces light up.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It was open house and one of my previous students that was in college came into the building to see me. He told me things I said to him, that I didn't recall saying, that impacted him. It was one reason why he is going to college for writing and wants to bring his writings to me. I was awed at how something I said impacted someone. We never know how a little word or gesture can impact kids.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have a 1 year old granddaughter and one on the way. I would like to put the money towards giving them experiences. Making sure they can go to museums, camps, and classes at our local community college to make sure they know anything is possible and to know all the possibilities out there.
