With over 26 years of teaching, I knew once I started classes in education and field experiences, teaching is what I was born to do for a career. I wanted to help struggling learners as I had some difficulty learning in high school. The thought of being able to impact students and help them read and write (my license specialty at the time) got me motivated and passionate about this field area. I continue to teach because of the students!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Over 10 years ago, I taught a young third grader at my elementary school who had behavior issues and dyslexia, so he couldn’t read. I was dedicated to help him learn to read. I could not believe how much he struggled at reading. I worked hard to find strategies and high impact books to help him learn. By the end of the year he was reading at a first-second grade level. I was so happy to be part of his reading journey.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had 25,000, first, I would donate back because I am a giver. I would do something special for students and staff who deserve it. Then, I would donate to my favorite non-profit organizations such as Samaritans Purse or Feed My Starving Children. Lastly, whatever is left, I would pay off my car!
