Tell us why you became a teacher

I always knew I wanted to work with children. When first entering college, I was going to major in child psychology. However, during these classes, we talked about the importance of school for kids and a child having a trusting adult. We also looked into the injustices of the system. I wanted to become a teacher to be that trusting, consistent adult if needed and to provide every child with the great education they deserve.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My first year teaching, I had a little girl who was struggling emotionally in class. I started this job a month after the school year started. She would knock over the bookshelves, throw books and pencils, and scream and leave the room almost daily. When I came in, I really clicked with this little girl. Our personalities just worked well together. Her progress, emotionally and academically, just sky rocketed. It showed me that I made the right choice choosing this career and why I do it.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use some of it to pay some medical debt we have. My daughter had to go into the hospital when she was a month old with pneumatosis. The rest would be used for some other debts we have - such as student loans or credit card debt.
