My dad was a teacher...my mom was a school secretary...my grandma ran my elementary school cafeteria...my aunt was a school nurse. I guess you could say education is in my blood! I'm proud to say that I have 2 nephews and a niece carrying on the family tradition as teachers. I love being a teacher, and I can't imagine doing anything else. I feel like I am making a positive difference in the world. It's definitely never boring!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience as a teacher happened last year, when my husband unexpectedly died of a heart attack. The entire school community rallied around me and helped me in ways I am so grateful for. Former students wrote me letters, parents dropped off meals, administrators made sure that I did not need to worry about anything school-related, and colleagues had my back in every way imaginable. Although this may not seem like a "teaching experience", it was the most memorable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would definitely want to spend some and invest some. Some would have to go towards my mortgage, which I would like to have paid off before I retire! A nice chunk would be used for a tropical vacation, which is usually not in my budget. I can just imagine myself sitting on a white sand beach, fruity cocktail in hand and crystal blue water in front of me, enjoying the latest bestseller. I would use some for new books on my bookshelf at school too, so the kids can have some fun.
