Tell us why you became a teacher

Like I tell my high school students, they are going to take over the world someday, and I want to be on their side. In seriousness, I love helping students come into their own power through encouraging critical thinking and questioning information they're given, much like I have done my whole life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When I taught seniors, I had them create their own resumes and cover letters. To practice, I had them create resumes for their dream jobs - no reality necessary! I had students turn in resumes and cover letters applying for T-rex handlers at Jurassic Park, captains of Starfleet, pit crew for Mario Kart, and others. It was so fun to grade, and a great way to take away the innate pressure of application materials.

What would you do with the $25,000?

In all honesty, I would use it to pay down debt and complete some much-needed home repair projects. My husband and I are both teachers; we make ends meet, but after all the bills are paid there is very little left over.
