Tell us why you became a teacher

A family friend introduced me to teaching, and after observing a 5th-grade classroom, I knew it was my path. Witnessing the teacher's connection with students and supporting them academically sparked my passion. Helping a struggling student solve a math problem or understand a text purpose was incredibly rewarding. It inspired my love for teaching, and I strive to ignite that same enthusiasm for learning in every student I work with.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A memorable teaching experience was supporting a student with math struggles, after their parent shared they had attempted suicide due to low self-esteem from poor math skills. I created a personalized plan, breaking down concepts and focusing on their strengths (He was an amazing artist at 10 years old) Over time, the student’s math skills and self-esteem improved. This experience reminded me of the importance of addressing both emotional well-being and academic challenges in my students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were fortunate enough to win the $25,000, I would begin by paying off my student loans to finally relieve the stress that has lingered for years. As a teacher, I’ve had to juggle multiple jobs to cover bills and reduce debt. This money would provide a fresh start, lifting a financial burden I’ve carried for over a decade. The remaining funds would go toward building a savings account and planning for future educational opportunities.
