Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after watching my mom and dad dedicate their lives to education. I saw their former students approach them years later, sharing how their guidance shaped their futures. I was also inspired by my favorite teacher, who taught me in both kindergarten and second grade, making learning magical. I wanted to create that same impact—fostering a love for learning and ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and capable of success.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was when a student who struggled with confidence finally read a full sentence aloud. He beamed with pride, and the class cheered him on. Seeing that moment of realization—that he was capable—reminded me of the power of encouragement and perseverance. Moments like these fuel my passion for teaching and remind me that small victories often lead to lifelong confidence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in classroom resources like diverse books, hands-on materials, and technology to enhance student learning. I’d also fund professional development to bring innovative strategies to my students. Lastly, I’d use part of the money to take my husband and son on a small vacation—they support me endlessly and allow me to share myself with hundreds of kids each year. They deserve that time, too.
