Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an educator to support students beyond academics, helping them navigate challenges, build resilience, and develop essential life skills. Teaching social-emotional learning is crucial in fostering self-awareness, emotional regulation, and strong relationships, which are key to success in school and life! I'm passionate about creating a positive, inclusive environment where students feel heard, valued and empower to grow into confident, capable individuals.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable lessons was an "In Your Shoes" activity, where I walked into each class wearing my husband's oversized boots. Most students laughed at how ridiculous I looked, but it sparked a discussion on perspective-taking. They read real-life scenarios, reflected on experiences, and shifted from judgement to understanding. Moments like these remind me why I love counseling and teaching- Helping students grow socially and emotionally while fostering a compassionate school community.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would help fund my doctoral degree in Educational Psychology, enhancing my ability to support students. Additionally, I'd start an afterschool program or club in our rural community, giving students more opportunities to build social, emotional, and leadership skills outside of school. Prioritizing mental health, this club would provide a safe space for students to connect and grow.
