Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was 7 years old I played “teacher” with my friends, and I was pretty good at it. I knew I wanted to be a joyful entertaining teacher like my first-grade Sister Catherine Louise. I took acting classes as a youth and use my natural talents to make learning fun with theatrical enthusiasm. My love of youth STEAM hands on learning continues and I get to empower future leaders and innovators.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Each day, as I teach youngsters, they engage in hands on “student-centered” learning, they get to mentor, sharing their knowledge and their eyes brighten and their faces shine. They “get it” and they also become lovers of learning and teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

After I retire, I’d continue writing children’s books and teaching STEAM because I love how student-centered learning empowers youth. My plan is to travel the USA in a renovated school bus turned classroom, bringing STEAM education to remote schools. Sharing the excitement of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math while inspiring curiosity and creativity; this brings me joy—I can’t wait to make learning an adventure for every student I meet!
