I became a teacher to inspire students to discover a passion for learning. Art provided me with a safe haven during one of the most challenging times in my life, helping me discover joy and resolve. Coming from a long line of educators, I see the profound impact teachers have in shaping lives. Guided through challenges like dyslexia by inspiring mentors, I experienced firsthand the transformative power of education. My mission is to inspire students to be creative, visionary, and bold.

My most memorable teaching moment was meeting a student attending school for the first time after moving from Eritrea. She spoke no English, but her joy, curiosity, and light were immediate. We connected through smiles and visuals, without needing words. Her confidence blossomed as she shared her culture, took risks, and grew as an artist. Watching her journey from that first day to graduation was a profound reminder of the courage students bring and the impact they have on their community.

With $25,000, I’d set aside a portion for my kids’ college fund and take an unforgettable family adventure to experience new cultures and create lasting memories. If there’s anything left, I’d pay off medical bills, maybe get a fire pit for cozy nights, and fund more family pizza, game, and movie nights. And, of course, I’d stock up on art supplies to keep the creativity flowing!
