Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education is one of the most powerful tools for change. I want to make a positive impact on my students' lives and help them realize their potential, both in and outside of the classroom. I want to create an inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or challenges.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was when a student began crying at the end of class. She opened up about not having tennis shoes for gym and failing the class. Without hesitation, I took off my new Nike shoes and gave them to her. That moment led to the creation of the Gosling Nest, a pantry providing food, clothing, and supplies to students in need. It was a reminder that teaching is about more than just the curriculum – it's about supporting the whole child.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As an art teacher, my passion is helping them express themselves, but resources are limited. I’d use the funds to purchase art supplies we can’t normally afford (I’m known as the “queen of dumpster diving” with just $1.30 per student per class). I’d also donate to the Gosling Nest, which provides food, clothing, and essentials to Watertown High School students. Finally, I’d create a scholarship for art students to pursue college, ensuring financial barriers don’t stand in their way.
