Learn MoreI became a teacher because I have 3 children with Autism and I was nervous about sending them to school. I know there are other parents who feel the same way. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs and make an educational environment that both parents and their children felt accepted and heard. I love the joy in the eyes of my students when I can help them learn and not feel defeated.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was helping a student learn to read after everyone had given up on them. They had big behaviors due to not being able to read and I worked one on one with this student to help them learn to read. When they looked at me with such a big smile because they finally were able to do what had been hindering them for so long was worth all the behaviors and the amount of time we spent learning to read.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would help pay for therapy for our youngest son. I would also give back something special to my wonderful students. Without them I wouldn't have a job that I love so much!
