Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I want to make a difference in others’ lives. Growing up, I saw this through my grandfather, who was also a teacher. I remember being at the grocery store with him when adults would approach and eagerly say, “Hi, Mr. Till!” He’d lean down and tell me, “That’s one of my former students.” To me, he was a celebrity—not for fame, but for the lives he changed. Seeing the impact he had inspired me to follow in his footsteps and strive to leave a similar legacy.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is creating programs and traditions that engage students and make school exciting. One favorite is the Harry Potter House competition, where we divide students into houses while reading the book. They compete in challenges over several weeks, culminating in a Quidditch Cup. We also host Harry Potter Night, where students bring chairs and blankets to watch the movie outside, enjoying butterbeer and snacks. These moments build community and continued learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With three babies under three and a stay-at-home wife, we’re struggling to make ends meet, from paying rent to buying diapers. If I had the money, I’d use it to provide for my family—making sure we have the clothes, food, and essentials we need. I’m also driving a 12-year-old car I bought at 20, which doesn’t have enough seats for my kids. Upgrading to a reliable family vehicle would make a huge difference in our daily lives and help ensure my family is safe and comfortable.
