Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after years of volunteering with children and adults with disabilities. I knew that I wanted to help everyone feel included and able to accomplish their personal goals. I enjoy getting kids excited to learn so that they want to learn something everyday. I also became a teacher to help kids that may not have the confidence to gain the confidence they need by celebrating even “small” successes.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience was the first year that my district had the seniors walk their elementary halls. It was the most emotional day filled with such joy and admiration. Seeing the seniors remember being that small and having the littles cheer them on like they were celebrities was just the most fulfilling day of my career. It was such a fantastic day because we prepared for their arrival by making signs and telling about what our first graders would do when they graduate.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’m not sure if I read that the $25,000 needs to be spent at school or for myself. So, I will tell you both. If it were to be spent in school I would help all of the grade levels in my school get toys and materials to help incorporate play into their day. We don’t get the funds for the extra craft supplies of learning toys and when we use them, they have such an impact on the students and how the retain the knowledge. If it were for me, house repairs or a trip!
