Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’m passionate about making a positive impact on young lives. Growing up, I was inspired by educators who nurtured my curiosity and confidence, and I wanted to do the same for others. Teaching allows me to foster growth, creativity, and a love for learning in my students. I enjoy helping them overcome challenges, embrace their potential, and succeed, especially those from diverse backgrounds. It’s rewarding to know I’m shaping future generations.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was working with a student with challenging behaviors. She felt powerless due to a difficult home life and acted out to regain control. I showed patience, understanding, and gave her choices, even when they weren’t ideal. Over time, she realized good decisions were within her power and became a leader. A highlight was taking her and two other students bowling—a first-time experience for them—as a reward. It showed me the impact of trust and connection.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I’d use it to throw an amazing end-of-year party for my students. They’ve worked so hard to overcome the challenges of the pandemic and deserve to celebrate. I’d also use the money to pay off my master’s degree and cover bills. My partner of six years, who grew up with only one parent, lost his mom in October. We’ve been struggling financially as early-career teachers, and this money would help us get back on track and allow me to give back to my students and school community.
