Tell us why you became a teacher

My journey to becoming a teacher started at the age, when I was 10 years old, I had two younger siblings, Aretha(now 57 years old) and Bernita, (51) who became my first students at home, I would play teacher with them, then, In my later years, I started loving to tutor less advantage adults and students to read and write, at the age of forty and forty two, the Lord blessed me with two more daughters and my passion to teach grew stronger, I am so happy, my daughters graduated with Honors.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience, was the day, I had to teach a Special Education class at Coffee High School(SPED) I had no idea of how to teach this class but the Lord was there with me, the love that I had for a special student name “Jackie” in elementary school gave me the motivation to teach them was the same guide my mother used to raise her children was called “trust,” “care” and much L-O-V-E, and this helped me, I was so happy and today they show me, LOVE.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First of all, I would Thank the Lord, and blow as many kisses to my mother, Robbie Mae Porter, in Heaven, who passed away on October 3, 2023, she raised six children as a single mother by the Grace of God. Her strength is instilled in me with the love and determination she filled in me to be great and successful, as a teacher, but to be a listener as well to your students and anyone in life that you are trying to help. I would buy me a new house for my family, the hurricane Helene, took mine.
