Tell us why you became a teacher

Due to not having children and being in my 40's, I decided to attend grad school so I could become a teacher. The road here was challenging however, the student energy, learning capabilities, and love I receive from them trumps any hardship I've encountered on my teaching journey. "An untapped student is a societal contribution missed." (Quote by me).

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was working abroad in international academies. Despite language barriers and limited resources, I learned to communicate creatively, adapt lesson plans, and foster culturally inclusive environment. I brought these skills back to my fifth-grade classroom in the USA, where I embrace diverse learning styles and create a space where every student feels valued. The nine years abroad blew the doors off all my potential. So very grateful!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With a 25,000 gift, I would create an art business celebrating diversity and culture. The funds would support classes in disadvantaged communities providing students with space, materials and mentorship. I would curate exhibitions highlighting their unique perspectives and host classes that educate them about global artistic traditions. By investing in young people's talent, we expose the beauty and creativity in the children we teach. "Art marries, mind, spirit, and community." (Quote by me).
