I love teaching because it allows me to connect with the next generation and teaching them about academics and how to be good people.

I became a teacher because I’ve always had a passion for helping kids grow and become the best versions of themselves. I grew up with a lot of insecurities and anxieties and I wanted to become a teacher to help kids know that it’s okay to be themselves even if it’s not perfect or the same as others. I wanted to teach kids emotional regulation so they can feel calm and regulated at school as well and just teach them to be good people.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was one year teaching 4th grade where I had the best relationships with my students and their families. My teaching philosophy is rooted in treating the whole child. My students said they loved having a choice in their learning and empower them to take charge of themselves in and out of the classroom. I gave them a voice in the class and a sense of purpose which led to friendships and self confidence.
What would you do with the $25,000?Being a teacher in California it is extremely challenging to afford to buy my own home, which my husband who is also a teacher and I are trying to do. I would save this money to help me put it toward a down payment on a house so I can start a family. Having a home is so important to us so we can work in our community and have a better sense of belonging to our community.
