Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I understand the profound impact educators can have on a child's life. Growing up, I was fortunate to have teachers who believed in me, even when I doubted myself. Their support showed me that education is about more than just memorizing facts. It’s about recognizing your potential, building confidence, and inspiring growth. My teachers shaped me to view the world as a sea of endless possibilities and I would like to do the same for others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I started my first year teaching in Fall 2019, right before Covid. One of my most memorable experiences to date is having to forgo a huge chunk of what I learned about classroom managment and learn how to adapt to online learning. I was no longer a physical presence in my student's education and was relagated as just another talking head on a screen that could be ignored. I really had to learn the classroom culture what really mattered to each kids individually.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The first thing I would do with this money is to pay for an MA program at CUNY Brooklyn College. Although I am currently in my 6th year teaching, I am not certified by my state. This restricts me to teaching at private schools or charters only. As someone who went to public schools all my life, I would like to get a master's degree, and a certification to teach in NYC public schools.
