I've always wanted to work in a school with students. I thought I wanted to be a speech pathologist until I started substitute teaching while going to college. I fell in love with the first long term substitute position I had. I was in a 5th grade classroom for 2 weeks. That's when I knew what I wanted to do. I loved the age and the content. I love when their face lights up when they learn something new. I went back to college that fall semester and changed my major to Elementary Education.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI've had some really incredible moments while teaching! One that stands out was a few years ago when one of my previous students asked if she could shadow me for a week. She was a senior now and had been "inspired by me and my classroom." I was humbled and honored to have her come. I thought, "Wow, I did that!" She moved away after 6th grade (my district has a high military population) and ended up moving back her sophomore year. I am thrilled I got the opportunity to reconnect with her!
What would you do with the $25,000?First off I would have a pizza and icecream party for my students!!!! I would also put the money into my daughter's college fund. She's in 1st grade and loves learning and school. Right now she wants to become a teacher or dentist and I would love to be able to help her reach that goal. We would also love a weekend trip to Burlington, Vermont to do cool things like go to the ECHO museum!
