Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’ve always felt called to this profession. Sharing my love of math while helping others is deeply fulfilling, and I’m inspired by the opportunity to make a difference in my students’ lives. Teaching isn’t just about instruction—it’s about learning and growing alongside my students every day. Their curiosity and perspectives challenge me, and I love being part of their journey.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My 1st year teaching, I was asked to teach computer programming—outside my area of comfort. Unprepared, I worked hard to stay ahead of my students. When faced with tough questions I couldn't answer, we found solutions together, building a true learning community. This strengthened their problem-solving skills, perseverance, & showed them that it’s okay not to know—as long as they’re willing to work for the answer. It also help to shape my view of what it means to be a teacher.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would use a fraction of it to complete a much-needed home repair and the remaining funds would be used to support the Link program at my school. This program empowers dedicated junior and senior Link Leaders who help freshmen feel welcome and supported, fostering a positive school culture. The fund would provide resources and opportunities to strengthen connections, develop leadership skills, and ensure every student feels a true sense of belonging on campus.
