Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching has always been my dream. As a child in the Philippines, I taught Bible stories during summer at our chapel’s Flores de Mayo Catechism, sparking my passion. Inspired by my own teachers, I took on mini-teacher roles in school, which honed my confidence and solidified my aspiration.This nurturing environment honed my confidence and solidified my aspiration to become a teacher. I am always excited to see my students think & create through hands-on activities which brings immense joy.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Guiding my students in their science investigatory projects, which won first and second place at the ND state fair, was a proud moment. I saw their hard work and joy when they succeeded. The experience and confidence they gained made me realize the importance of supporting them. Hearing “thank you for staying late and helping us” was incredibly rewarding. I am grateful and happy to have touched their hearts and filled their minds with knowledge.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will share my prize with my school in Mandaree, North Dakota , funding enrichment programs, science clubs and future science fairs. I will also donate money for my co-teachers and the staff who are our everyday heroes. A big sum of money will be donated to Budla-an Integrated School to build a nice library with computers. I will also provide schools supplies, bags and shoes for the kids in the said school. Printers and papers will be donated to my fellow teachers in the Philippines
