Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was inspired by amazing educators in my schools in Texas, Washington, and military schools abroad—especially my mother. Their passion showed me the power of creativity and connection in learning. I strive to inspire creativity, build confidence, and support students as they grow. Drama helps them express themselves, collaborate, and gain life skills. Teaching lets me create a safe space where all learners feel valued and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching drama has given me the opportunity to help students overcome challenges and discover their confidence. One student, who used to cry at every music program, now takes the stage with pride and supports their peers. Together, we explored ways to manage anxiety, including breathing exercises, positive self-talk, and focusing on the joy of performing. Watching this student grow into a confident, encouraging presence on stage has been one of the most rewarding parts of my teaching journey.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have a daughter who is about to start high school, so I think a big chunk of money would be headed to help with tuition costs. A college education is so important, but so expensive. I don't want her to graduate with a huge debt. I also love to travel, so would like to take a family vacation.
